Several assembly teams and ditto cranes lift the steel structure designed by Pelecon very energetically at VidaXL phase 4 in Horst aan de Maas. The first floor slabs for the mezzanine floor are laid and the roof slabs are shot on the steel construction. The fire walls between the different building parts are also included. These must be placed before an adjacent building part can be made through the separated steel structures. This is how it works: first one building part (row of columns) is placed, then the fire wall (aerated concrete panels) is placed against it. Only now can it be built on the other side of the hall (row of columns on the other side). This sequence is common, otherwise there is a high risk of damage to the aerated concrete panels.

Building parts A and C are already at 3/4 and a start has already been made on building part B.

This was a unique project to work on. Above the Rituals, on the corner of Kleiweg – Turfweg in Gouda, five homes were completed in December 2020. The renovation of this old building in the city center started with an investigation. The upper floors of the building had not been used for the last 30 years and had been poorly maintained, making them dilapidated. The owner really wanted to know whether a combination of shopping and living could be realized. Pelecon has calculated all existing constructions and made a constructive calculation for the renewed construction.

We were involved in this project as a consultant up to and including delivery. During construction, we mainly contributed to solutions for unforeseen deviations. We have also answered all questions from inspection authorities and assessed all buyers’ wishes in terms of construction.

A cool project, we say ourselves, in which we have put our heart and soul into it for three years. We are therefore very proud of the end result!

Centipede, all-rounder, spider in the web… .. Just a few synonyms for our secretaries Margriet Amersfoort and Yvonne Leenart. Thanks to the support of these two, the team can do what they do best: calculate, draw and check on load-bearing and stability structures! Pelecon runs optimally and efficiently!

We wish every company such a Margriet and Yvonne; they are indispensable!

As mentioned before, we occasionally visit our projects to check on the construction site whether our advice is actually being carried out as we have given it. Last week we drove, for the second time, to the new construction location of the XXL distribution center in Echt-Susteren. Construction started at the end of last year.

As can be seen in the photos, we have checked the steel construction of Unit 1.2 assembled by Reijrink for construction principles and assembly execution. As a constructor, we had few comments, the construction looked neat.

In total we have to check four units, in week 15 we will be on the road again to check unit 2.2.

FOR OUR CLIENT VIDA-XL THIS WEEK ON THE CONSTRUCTION SITE, THE FOUNDATION STRIPS AND POWERS OF THEIR NEW DISTRIBUTION CENTER IN HORST AAN DE MAAS WERE CHECKED. IT CONCERNS PHASE 4 OF THE STORAGE BUILDING OF OVER 150,000 M² GFA ON A FOOTPRINT OF A TOTAL 123,000 M².

The uniqueness is the size of the building together with the logistics bridge, which connects phase 3 to phase 4 over the public road. This bridge is still under preparation. Our conclusion after the visit: the construction site looks very neat!

POWERFUL CONSTRUCTION

The strength of the construction design is the cooperation of the portal trusses above the mezzanine in combination with the roof connections. Due to the length of the 6 building parts and the client’s wish not to use wind bracing in the building, it is certainly desirable to reduce the upward and horizontal forces in the side and intermediate walls. In this way we reduce a considerable amount of kilos of roof connections and the tensile forces on the side and intermediate walls, so that no tension piles are created.

Sometimes it takes a while before a project for which we have calculated and drawn the construction is completely ready. This also applies to the new departure hall of Rotterdam The Hague Airport. Recently, beautiful photos were taken where the construction of the building is clearly visible.

Assembly steel construction for BMW MINI Renova Tilburg has started

Geplaatst op: 10 March 2021

We are happy to tell you that we would like to remain involved during the construction of a project for which we have drawn and calculated the construction! Last week we also drove past the new building for BMW MINI Renova. A new building with a beautiful showroom, workshop, offices and parking deck is being realized here.

Much of the showroom’s steel structure has now been assembled. This made it easy for us to see whether the construction as it is now, is in accordance with drawings and calculations. Besides the fact that we like to take on the controlling role, we also just enjoy driving past the construction site. And…. the final result; that’s what we do it all for!

Internship with a great added value!

ANNUAL THE CONSTRUCTION SECTOR IS RESPONSIBLE FOR 38 PERCENT OF TOTAL CO2 EMISSIONS. THERE IS A LOT OF PROFIT TO BE GAINED ON ITS REDUCTION IN THIS SECTOR. THIS IS WHY OUR TRAINEE BAS VAN DEN DOOL WILL EXAMINE HOW WE CAN CONTRIBUTE TO REDUCE CO2 EMISSIONS WITH OUR CONSTRUCTIVE DESIGNS FROM DISTRIBUTION CENTERS IN THE FIRST INSTANCE.

Bas is a student in the “Spatial Development and Climate Management” course at The Hague University of Applied Sciences and is extremely interested in how far we, as a constructor / modeller, can reduce CO2 emissions through the use of more sustainable materials and policy adjustments. That is why he researches breakthrough techniques in the production process, as well as design choices for both concrete and steel.

RESEARCH QUESTIONS

Bas studies which CO2-reducing developments affect concrete and steel structures. In addition, Bas wants to know which changes in policy and design lead to CO2 savings on the realization of building structures.

A RELEVANT RESEARCH

Interesting and for us an extremely relevant study. Bas will present the results to us around 23 April, we look forward to it. Because “sustainability” is a subject that we deal with on a daily basis and in which we continue to delve further. Ultimately, we want to contribute to reducing those CO2 emissions, are you participating?

XXL-DC Echt-Susteren

Curious as we are about our projects, after a number of dark days, we drove past the new construction location of the XXL distribution center in Echt-Susteren last week. This was the first time that we visited this project, after construction started at the end of last year.

As can be seen in the photos, the construction process is well organized. The foundation is completely in place, including the collapse of the anchors. The T and P elements for the dock shelters are also in position. Now we are working hard on the assembly of the steel construction, as well as laying the floor and roof plates.

Pelecon saves for the food bank

Geplaatst op: 5 February 2021

WITH PELECON, WE LIKE TO WORK FOR A GOOD PURPOSE. WHEN OUR COLLEAGUE PASCAL WAS REQUESTED BY LIONS CLUB HERA FROM GOUDA WHETHER PELECON WANTED TO “SAVE” FOR THE FOOD BANK, WE OF COURSE DIDN’T DOUBT FOR A MOMENT ABOUT THIS.

Food banks (Voedselbanken Nederland) in the Netherlands distribute packages of food products every week among selected families, singles and homeless people. Most of these products are made available by food producers and distributors. In today’s difficult times, these organizations are less able to donate products to food banks than before. Lions clubs in the Netherlands have therefore started to collect Douwe Egberts points, the value of which is increased by 15% by Douwe Egberts. Subsequently, the points are exchanged for packs of coffee that are donated to the Food Bank. What started as a spontaneous campaign in Voorburg has now grown into a widely supported national collection involving over 120 Lions clubs, all food banks in the Netherlands and over 10,000 volunteers.

DOUWE EGBERTS POINTS BOX

After a nice conversation with the ladies of Lions Club Hera, Pelecon was soon appointed as a collection point for companies from Gouda. We got a box at the office in which we did not only do our own Douwe Egberts points. We have also actively recruited among our relations, they were enthusiastic and, after hearing or reading about our box, spontaneously brought along their Douwe Egberts points!

THE PROFIT!

Last edition, the food banks received a total of 134,000 packs of coffee. This means that one family can be provided with one pack of coffee every 2 weeks. A fantastic yield! We will be a collection point for Douwe Egberts points again next year! Can you help us by saving your points for our box for the coming year? Thanks!
