Sustainable expansion of the Rode Kruis Hospital

Geplaatst op: 9 October 2025

With a focus on technical challenges and innovative solutions, Pelecon worked with various partners to realise the expansion of the Rode Kruis Hospital in Beverwijk. Commissioned by Medexs BV, a complex project was brought to a successful conclusion, combining structural precision, sustainability and efficiency.

The extension of the Rode Kruis Hospital consists of four floors with a total surface area of over 9,000 m², directly linked to the existing building on Vondellaan. Each floor was given a clear function: the ground floor houses the emergency room and ambulance hall, the first floor houses radiology, the second floor contains the new operating rooms and the third floor is equipped for technical services. The roof was also given a green design, which contributes to both sustainability and a more pleasant living environment.

Construction advice for beautiful villa in Laren

Geplaatst op: 30 September 2025

A beautiful new villa has recently been built in Laren. Pelecon provided the structural calculations and drawings for this project, paying particular attention to the complex design. The villa has a basement that runs across the entire surface area, a unique roof structure with a load-bearing steel construction and rounded shapes that presented an additional challenge in the structural design.

Extensive offices and logistics for DSV

The DSV Moerdijk project is being realised in Moerdijk, a large-scale logistics and office complex, part of which has already been completed. The project comprises a three-storey office building of approximately 1,450 m², ten distribution halls with a total footprint of approximately 158,000 m², a mezzanine floor of approximately 40,000 m², a parking deck above the mezzanine floors, a curtain wall of more than 750 metres and a cross dock.

Our client, Bouwbedrijf Vrolijk, asked Pelecon to further develop the detailed design into the final design documents, with the aim of optimising the construction. The project was characterised by its enormous scale and the complexity of the repetition of unique halls. The parking deck above the mezzanine and the curtain wall in particular posed structural challenges.

Hilti BIM Experience Centre

Geplaatst op: 26 September 2025

This month, Hilti’s new BIM Experience Centre will be completed in Berkel en Rodenrijs: an innovative 4,350 m² office building. The building will be the centre for knowledge sharing and innovation in digitisation in construction. Hilti’s wish was clear: a BIM Competence Centre that is Paris Proof and, where possible, built using bio-based materials. As a structural engineer, Pelecon played a key role in this.

Paris Proof construction means that a building already complies with the strict sustainability standards set out in the Paris Climate Agreement. In concrete terms, this involves a drastic reduction in energy consumption and CO₂ emissions, so that the building is future-proof for 2050. Biobased construction revolves around the use of renewable materials from natural sources – such as wood – that are less harmful to the environment and often even store CO₂.

Distribution center Ara

DEVELOPING A DISTRIBUTION CENTER THAT FITS WITHIN THE LANDSCAPE WAS THE OBJECTIVE OF THE OWNER, PROPERTY DEVELOPER, ARCHITECT AND BUILDER PELECON. THE RESULT IS A DISTRIBUTION CENTER WITH ALL THE FUNCTIONALITIES THAT BELONG TO A DISTRIBUTION CENTER, BUT THANKS TO AN ECOLOGICAL NATURE SCREEN OF ALMOST ONE KILOMETER LONG AND 15 METERS HIGH, THE DISTRIBUTION CENTER GETS A BEAUTIFUL ECOLOGICAL BOW AND PROMOTES BIODIVERSITY IN THE AREA.

The ecological nature screen is projected partly against the building, partly freestanding and partly above the dock positions. “At the base of the nature screen is an impressive steel frame, which in the coming months and years will be overgrown by a wide variety of plants,” Stolwijk says. “Together with the architect, we made the initial design sketches for this and refined them further and further, keeping in mind aesthetics, stability and feasibility. In this way, nature, architecture, technology and functionality come together beautifully.”

WE ARE FREQUENTLY CALLED IN BY ARCHITECTS TO ADVISE ON CONSTRUCTION DURING THE DESIGN PHASE. ULTIMATELY, OF COURSE, THAT BEAUTIFUL BUILDING MUST ALSO BE SAFE FOR ITS USERS. ARCHITECT DENC ASKED US AT AN EARLY STAGE OF THE ASSIGNMENT TO MAKE A STRUCTURAL DESIGN FOR INTRALOX LLC EUROPE’S NEW BUILDING. Intralox is a global provider of transportation solutions for moving the most critical products. The company supplies a variety of industries: from the food processing industry to postal and parcel distribution. Schiphol Trade Park in Hoofddorp fits Intralox’s needs well, especially the central location and therefore good accessibility offer advantages. However, Schiphol Trade Park’s high sustainability ambitions also align with Intralox’s core values.

Since 2020, Pelecon has been working with architect StudioWA! worked on the redevelopment of the old Norit building in Amersfoort. In addition to a beautiful business building, the office tower is now part of the modern, authentic Norit Campus. We do not use these superlatives for nothing, as this vibrant heart for the Isselt business park, an urban area in development, exudes luxury and even has a wonderful gym with a large membership base.

Reshift’s building was once built as a maintenance place for central government cars. Some renovation was therefore necessary. To turn this garage into a suitable home, Reshift engaged Delft-based Vakwerk Architecten for the design. Where we stepped in for the construction advice. A nice challenge soon appeared.
