It has been a month since we signed the merger contract. This first month was one in which our colleagues from Amersfoort and Gouda got to know each other better, in which we worked together for the first time. And not without success! A number of new assignments have already been started. According to plan, because we have a growth ambition. In people, expertise and assignments! National and international.

We have challenging work planned for the coming six months with an immense number of square meters in both the Netherlands and abroad. But….. we are now going to enjoy a well-deserved holiday from Monday August 2 to Friday August 13.

THE KIPNUGGETS FACTORY OF TYSON FOODS IN OOSTERWOLDE EXPANDS A TOTAL OF 4,500 M². THE INVESTMENT FROM BRAZIL PROVIDES A STATE-OF-THE-ART FACTORY. THE MAIN ADVANTAGE OF THIS: TYSON WILL PRODUCE MORE CHICKEN NUGGETS IN LESS TIME BECAUSE OF THE MORE MODERN PRODUCTION LINE!

Producing food safe is very important to Tyson Foods customers. This also places demands on the construction. The large amount of air treatment requires heavy cabinets on the construction. Freezer halls like this are a real specialty of Pelecon Amersfoort. If it is within -25 degrees, this places specific demands on the constructive structure.

Pelecon will be involved in this project as main constructor up to delivery.

We paid another visit to the BMW MINI Renova construction site in Tilburg. We are currently working hard to make the showroom, workshop and offices wind- and watertight. Only the ground floor has yet to be poured. The work here can only be completed once we have approved this ground floor.

Pelecon structural engineers and Reijneveld Engineering; stronger together. The merger will be official from June 29, 2021. Ambitions are merged, creating one team, led by an enthusiastic management. André Verschoor, Mack Stolwijk and Henk van Vliet bundle their consultancy firms for structural constructions and continue together with the name: Pelecon structural engineers. With branches in Gouda and Amersfoort.

The desire to grow in people, expertise and assignments has existed at both companies for a long time. Just like the desire to give the team the opportunity to develop. To learn from new colleagues and to carry out other challenging assignments in the Netherlands and abroad. Pelecon Gouda and Pelecon Amersfoort, as the locations are called, will remain the same in terms of team composition. “In that respect, our regular customers will still feel welcome at our office after the merger. Our challenge is to continue to surprise with an ever-growing expertise,” says Henk van Vliet.

Stronger together!
Mack continues: “We are going to share the best of both companies. The biggest advantage of this is that we can serve our potential and existing customers even better because of the larger capacity. We can also innovate more easily as one Pelecon than before. For example for 3D-BIM and parametric design. We want to take big steps together with the integration of our calculation and modeling work to be able to design even more sharply. Sustainability is an important aspect; we will be working with our clients throughout Pelecon to drastically reduce the negative environmental impact of the structures we have designed.”

A merger offers opportunities in new business
André Verschoor explains that the merger creates many opportunities: “We are already very strong in logistics real estate, industry and stacked housing. As a larger agency, we can and want to participate in European tenders in the future, for example for schools, town halls or museums. For example, we are available for quick scans, design sketches and second opinions.”

In short: the three gentlemen are eagerly looking forward to the future, in which entrepreneurship will hopefully yield good results. The team is on edge, ready to take on the new challenge!

THIS MONTH, KLAUDIA WOJTASIK STARTED AT PELECON AS A PROJECT ENGINEER. HER FATHER – OWNER OF A SMALL CONSTRUCTION COMPANY – INSPIRED KLAUDIA ALL YOUNG. SO SHE MADE THE CHOICE TO STUDY AT THE FACULTY OF CIVIL ENGINEERING AT THE CZESTOCHOWA UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY IN POLAND!

Klaudia has been living in the Netherlands since 2015, together with her boyfriend. She says that the language barrier meant that she wanted to learn Dutch as quickly as possible so that she could actually put her knowledge into practice. Klaudia: “During the first year that I lived in the Netherlands, I worked at a small renovation agency in Amsterdam. By speaking a lot of Dutch here, I was soon able to sit down with clients and provide them with my architectural advice. After that year I wanted to learn more after which I worked for a geotechnical consultancy for three years. It was there that I first came into contact with civil engineering. Because I wanted to learn more about designing buildings, I switched to an engineering firm. I worked there until the vacancy for Project Constructor at Pelecon came up.”

CHALLENGE
We are proud that Klaudia will join our team, her knowledge and experience help us realize our ambitions. Klaudia adds: “What I have learned during my studies and in previous work experience will help in the challenge we face as a team at Pelecon!”

LAST SATURDAY, ONE OF OUR COLLEAGUES TOOK A BOAT TRIP OVER THE NIEUWKOOPSE PLASSEN. HE ENTERS A MODERN VILLA HOUSE; A BEAUTIFUL PROJECT FOR A PRIVATE TARGET GROUP ON WHICH PELECON PARTICIPATED. THESE ARE FUN QUESTIONS TO RESOLVE FOR PELECON, NEXT TO LARGE OFFICE BUILDINGS AND DISTRIBUTION CENTERS.

Unique to this villa is that the load-bearing skeleton consists entirely of cast-in-place concrete. This means that the work of pouring the walls, storey and roof floor took place entirely on the construction site. The hanging balcony/platform has also been cast in place and hangs completely around the house from an isokorf thermal bridge interruption system. Due to large floor spans and floor cantilevers, the formwork for the pour is sufficiently pre-arched and raised to obtain a horizontal floor construction in the final situation.

Pelecon worked closely with contractor Aannemingsbedrijf Van der Vlist and was responsible for constructive advice for this villa on the Zuidhoek residential location.

Papendrecht fire station delivered

THE PARTLY TRANSPARENT FIRE STATION FITS THE FIRE FIGHTERS LIKE A JACKET. FURTHERMORE, FROM THE CIRCULAR CONCRETE FOUNDATION TO THE ROOF, THE PROPERTY IS SUSTAINABLE AND BUILT.

Together with architect RoosRos Architecten and contractor BMN De Klerk, we formed the construction team for the new fire station in Papendrecht. An intensive period of design resulted in the start of construction at the end of August 2020. The building is located on the same site, right next to the municipal yard, which we also developed.

SUSTAINABLE

The municipality of Papendrecht and the architect wanted to build the new fire station as sustainably as possible. This has been interpreted in various ways. For example by using ‘Freement’, this is a circular concrete mortar. Made from recycled cement from concrete rubble, which contributes to lower CO2 emissions. The construction is also circular. This can be completely dismantled and reused at the end of the building’s lifespan. Other sustainable applications include solar panels, all-electric installations, charging stations for electric bicycles and cars and a wadi.

STEEL, SANDWICH PANELS AND GLASS

With the driving of the first pile, construction of the fire station officially started on 27 August 2020. By applying smart detailing and multiple design proposals, where the construction team could switch quickly, we as Pelecon were able to make a difference.

Building permit requested for foodcourt in Nieuwegein

Last month, the building permit was applied for for the Foodcourt in Nieuwegein. A striking building, visible from the highway, with a distinctive 40m high advertising tower. After completion, KFC, De Beren, Happy Italy and McDonald’s will settle in this building.

Smooth construction new headquarters NVM (Utrecht, Papendorp)

MID-2019, WE GOT INVOLVED IN THE DESIGN OF THE NEW HEAD OFFICE OF THE NEDERLANDSE VERENIGING VAN MAKELAARS EN TAXATEURS (NVM) IN UTRECHT. IN THIS PROJECT WE WORK TOGETHER WITH HEEMBOUW KANTOREN AS A CONTRACTOR, HEEMBOUW ARCHITECTS AND LOMANS TOTAL TECHNIQUE.

The building, designed by Vivian Meijburg, is a tailor-made suit for NVM. In the building there is space for working, learning and meeting and the many spaces are placed around the central atrium. A gigantic glass roof will be built above the atrium, so that all areas will be provided with daylight.

CLEAN CONSTRUCTION SITE

It was jointly decided to construct the entire skeleton in prefabricated concrete. This choice gives a high construction speed and a clean construction site, because all elements are placed directly from the truck on the end place. As can be seen in the photos, the shell immediately looks sleek with minimal tolerances.

SPECIAL BUILDING

A special feature of this building is the semi-sunken parking garage. By adjusting the construction height of the building, a parking garage with an open pavement could be used. By installing above the highest groundwater level, a concrete basement floor could be saved!

50% Less CO2 emissions in 2030, we go for it!

SUSTAINABLE BUILDING IS NATURAL IN THE NETHERLANDS. BUT WE WANT TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE WITH PELECON. THAT is why OUR GRADUATION STUDENT BAS VAN DEN DOOL RESEARCHED INTO THE SUSTAINABLE BUILDING OF LOGISTICS CENTERS. WE WANT TO EMIT 50% LESS CO2 DURING THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE CONSTRUCTION BY 2030 IN ORDER TO COMPLY WITH THE CLIMATE AGREEMENT GUIDELINES THAT APPLY AT THE TIME. A BEAUTIFUL AMBITION AND TO REACH IT WE MUST TAKE STEPS. WE ARE READY!

Bas has conducted specific research into CO2 saving developments that can be applied within the construction of a logistics building. His research shows that there are two sustainable solutions for concrete that can reduce the shadow costs of a building. The application of ‘Freement’ was investigated, but also of geopolymers as cement replacements. Freement is a product that has already been used in many of our designs, it has also been Komo approved since last year. Geopolymer as a cement replacement is still in its infancy and much research still needs to be done into the long-term effects in particular, but can become the sustainable alternative to Portland cement.

STRONGER STEELS

A CO2 reduction has also been achieved for steel by using even stronger types of steel in steel structures than we currently use. By designing the construction with stronger steel, less steel is needed to achieve the same load-bearing capacity for the construction. This way you save steel and therefore also CO2 emissions!

A SECOND LIFE

By giving a construction a second life, you also realize a strong CO2 reduction. Finally, developments of design/policy were examined. The first is the principle of “remountable construction”, also known as “circular construction”. Construction elements are created here that can be dismantled without a demolition hammer at the end of their service life. It is not possible to completely disassemble and reassemble a building. But by investigating the possibilities with all project partners and product suppliers, we take each project one step further.

This is of course a quick summary of Bas’ complete research. We’ve left out the hard numbers, we’ll keep them to ourselves.
