Qumey Metalindustry
Maarssen
A fine piece of craftsmanship

Maarssen is home to the Meijers family’s metal industry Qumey. Some 50 years ago, they built their first building on Handelsweg in Maarssen. In recent years, the company has grown steadily, making expansion of the premises inevitable. Three modern production halls were therefore added and the office area was substantially expanded. A whole that meets all ultramodern requirements of today and the future!

"And handsome workmanship"

The modern production hall and expanded office area of Qumey Metaalindustrie have been put into operation. The building was designed by MIES Architecture and is fully tailored to the requirements of the Maarssen-based steelworker. Pelecon made the structural design for this magnificent building, with Qumey itself producing and assembling the steel.

Mack Stolwijk explains that the office part is structurally separated from the hall structure because of fire resistance and noise transmission between the building parts. "The new building is positioned next to an existing Qumey production hall, for which a neighbouring property was purchased. In the production hall, provisions have been made for nine overhead cranes over three crane tracks, one half-gantry crane and four wall cranes."

An own contribution
According to Mack, however, one comment needs to be made. "In designing the new building, the architect issued a calling card in materialisation which reflects what metal industry Qumey stands for. This is exactly why they are also putting the finishing touches to their own building. The steel canopy, which will characterise the building, will be produced and installed in March. Naturally by Qumey itself."
