We have now completed many automotive assignments. For several of these assignments we have collaborated with Mies Architectuur. For us a great sparring partner with a lot of knowledge and where half a word is enough. For our client, this results in a complete advice in which the visual and constructive design connect seamlessly.
On November 16, 2020, the new construction of BMW MINI Renova Tilburg officially started. The first pile has been driven for a new building with a beautiful showroom, workshop, offices and parking deck. A beautiful design, if we say so ourselves. With unique elements!
The first floor of the building above the workshop will have a small overhang of about one meter. The showroom, on the other hand, will have an overhang of 7.2 meters long and 20 meters wide. This gives a nice sight, but constructively this still requires attention due to the limited beam heights and the parking deck above. In addition, no extra facilities were allowed for the construction. By making two large trusses, the construction, as designed by Mies Architectuur, can still be technically executed.
We will keep an eye on the construction in the coming period!

The number of orders is increasing, while the volume of orders is decreasing. A fully mechanized bin warehouse is a good solution for this, thought CB (the former Central Broekhuis). They asked Denc and Pelecon to contribute ideas to the construction of the new high-bay warehouse. We made all main calculations, plan model and construction drawings.
The new high-bay warehouse measuring 30 x 100 and a height of 34 meters has been built against the existing company building. The extension is divided into a working area of 30 x 17 meters with elevators, conveyors, stairs, a passenger / goods lift, an office space, a pantry area and sanitary facilities. The extension consists of a steel construction, sandwich panels and five storey floors (hollow core slab floors) with a pressure layer in the work area.
The role of Pelecon
In the high-bay warehouse, the design of the construction was separate from the racks. This made the design relatively simple with the exception of the height of the high-bay warehouse. Project designer Bastiaan Hoefnagel indicates that due to the height of 34 meters, the columns had to be built up heavier and in parts. The windage also contributes to that height. By stabilizing the existing high-rise construction at the new building, many kilos could be saved and a lot of sustainability was guaranteed.
Challenge
For the work area – the part where the bins with the orders arrive and are processed – we calculated the entire foundation and steel construction of the five storeys. Here it was a challenge due to the existing buildings to get the heavy column loads on the foundation piles, which was achieved by using heavy floor beams.
We look back on a challenging but successful project!

BMW & MINI van Poelgeest in Amstelveen is currently being expanded, so that the building will soon cover more than 11 thousand square meters; twice the size of the old building.
Pelecon is responsible for the design of the main load-bearing structure of the building, which in the future will form part of the new noise barrier along Rijksweg A9 in Amstelveen. Due to the enclosure with a span of 21.0 m, an entire floor has been added and the existing workshop has been considerably expanded. The entire building has new facades and on the motorway side outdoor platforms have been made for exhibiting the latest models.
The construction of the three-storey parking garage is currently in full swing. The aim is to deliver the entire building around the turn of the year.

The new Bol.com distribution center was completed in July, the (mechanical) equipment is currently being completed, after which the first packages are expected to roll off the production line in 2021. Pelecon was involved early on by the architectural and engineering firm DENC in designing a suitable structural design for the automated systems and in selecting the high-rise racks. “On the basis of this constructive design and the aesthetic design of DENC, we advised, calculated and drawn the foundation and steel construction for the new building”, according to Pelecon constructor Bastiaan Hoefnagel.
Pelecon has designed a completely new construction for the second distribution center. The condition was that the building had to be future-proof and had to be able to accommodate the latest developments in mechanization. That is why an optimal column structure was sought for both the building construction and the mechanization. For the high-rise section, Pelecon advised, among other things, large IPE 750 girders, which enable spans of up to 32 meters.
During the execution, Pelecon was responsible for checking, for example, the reinforcement and steel construction. Now that the construction is ready, we remain involved for questions. For example, with regard to the installation of heavy machinery and installations.
