Expansion distribution centre Bol.com

Second DC Bol.com stands like a house

Bol.com’s new distribution centre in Waalwijk was completed in July, currently the (mechanical) fit-out is being finalised after which the first packages are expected to roll off the conveyor belt in 2021. Pelecon was involved early on by architecture and engineering firm DENC in designing a suitable structural design for the automated systems and to select the high-rise racking. “Based on this structural design as well as DENC’s aesthetic design, we advised, calculated and modelled the foundation and steel structure for the new building,” says Pelecon structural engineer Bastiaan Hoefnagel.

For the second distribution centre, Pelecon designed a completely new structure. The building had to be future-proof and able to accommodate the latest developments in mechanisation. An optimal column structure was therefore sought for both the building structure and the mechanisation. For the high-rise section, Pelecon designed, among other things, large IPE 750 girders, enabling spans of up to 32 metres.

During execution, Pelecon was responsible for checking the reinforcement and steel structure, for example. Now that the construction is complete, we remain involved for questions. For instance, regarding the placement of heavy machinery and installations.
